ISO/IEC 20000 Qualification Program wins Innovation Award

31.10.2008

On Monday, October 27, itSMF Nederland presented EXIN with the Innovation Award for 2008. The jury agrees that EXIN’s newest qualification program IT Service Management according to ISO/IEC 20000, promises to bring important improvements to the IT Service Management field. This Innovation Award is presented each year during the annual itSMF Conference, to the company or individuals who have brought about new and impacting changes to the field.

An expert jury
Five respected leaders in the IT Service Management field in the Netherlands sat on the jury which chose the winner from the three nominations – EXIN, KPN (a Dutch telecomm company) and ITPreneurs. The submissions were judged on the basis of originality, the practical application of the service or product, and the general added value for itSMF members and professionals currently working in IT Service Management.

Based on job roles and competencies
Suzanne Galletly, portfolio manager at EXIN, who coordinated much of the exam development and helped present the program at the competition, said, “The competition was strong, especially ITPreneur’s new metrics analysis system. But what was really an important factor is that with the ISO/IEC 20000 program EXIN is putting the focus on the employee, and the roles and competencies expected of them.  This is new and this is the direction business are seeing increasing value in.”

The new program was developed in partnership with the TüV SüD Akademie so that their strengths in the area of quality management and auditing could be combined with EXIN’s years of experience developing qualification programs. Market representatives and internationally-recognized ISO/IEC 20000 experts all provided input and feedback for the development of this program ensuring that the most current knowledge was incorporated in a way that was useful for employee’s day-to-day performance.

Eveline van Oostrom, EXIN’s manager of exam development is very proud of winning the award: “This is quite an accomplishment for EXIN to produce such a strong qualification program in such short a time. To be recognized with the Innovation Award is a very special achievement which shows that EXIN is on top of the latest and best developments in the industry.”

An individual approach
Galletly emphasized that EXIN has initiated a person-centered approach to ITSM material in the past with ITIL V2 products, but that ISO/IEC 20000 was developed with this in mind from the beginning. Including practical assignments to reinforce roles and competencies prepares an ISO/IEC 20000 candidate better for the practical application of knowledge on the job. This is a crucial part of the new program and one of the factors that makes it unique among other programs.

About the new qualification program
In line with changing customer demands and new developments in IT Service Management, EXIN’s portfolio aims at a quality approach towards IT Service Management, focused on ISO/IEC 20000, the international, independent, standard for quality in IT Service Management. EXIN and TüV SüD Akademie are jointly developing this qualification program for IT professionals who are involved in the quality improvement of IT Services at all levels.

As the standard ISO/IEC 20000 establishes the quality requirements an organization should meet in IT Service Management, the qualification program for IT professionals shows the vision behind the standard and gives insight in ‘how to’ accomplish the required quality level of IT Services. The new program teaches students to use the framework neutral standard ISO/IEC 20000 as a compass for navigating across all the different IT Service Management standards, best practices and frameworks, making the best use of them all.

Independent exams
The qualification program comprises a Foundation exam, five Professional exams and two tracks. The first track is geared towards IT Management, while the second focuses on Auditing. For more information, such as the names, levels and availability of the exams, please visit www.exin-exams.com.
