Getting Started with the ABC of ICT

1. What is ABC of ICT?

  • ABC stands for Attitude, Behavior and Culture.
    • ABC issues are like an Iceberg, much of it hidden beneath the surface, yet capable of inflicting enormous damage to your IT organization, or more importantly, your business!
  •  Helps address ABC issues within ITIL and ITSM
  • Consists of a card set (Assessment tool), Exercise workbook (for using the cards), Book (containing practical cases and advice from Industry experts and practitioners)
  • ABC of ICT card set is often used in workshops to help departments, teams or individuals identify worst practices within their organization and the impact of these worst practices on the business. The Card set is used to stimulate discussion and dialogue and raise awareness for the need to address ABC of ICT issues
  • Fills a gap in existing ITIL and ITSM certification training
  • Designed and drawn by Paul Wilkinson and Jan Schilt, well-known and respected throughout the world for their GamingWorks products

2. What are the ABC program parts?

  • An ABC cards deck with 57 industry recognized worst practice cartoons taken from 1000’s of real life situations
  • The ABC Introductory book describes how ABC issues were dealt with by organizations and professionals around the world
  • The ABC Exercise Workbook gives practical exercises that can be performed in a workshop, team meeting or as part of formal training courses. These are exercises using the ABC of ICT card set
  • All of these products combine to enable an organization to raise awareness, to assess themselves and to identify practical approaches for resolving ABC issues
  • The EXIN ABC Accreditation (explained in full below)

3. Why was ABC of ICT developed?

  • More than 50% of ITSM improvement initiatives meet resistance and fail to achieve their goals
  • Traditional forms of ITSM certification and training fail to adequately teach people about the underlying ABC issues which are the causes of failure

4. What is EXIN ABC Accreditation?

  • EXIN has extended its independent, worldwide accreditation process to the ABC of ICT program. EXIN lays out a set of requirements that partners need to comply with to be recognized as Accredited Training Partners. These regulations will be found in the EXIN´s Accreditation Guide for ABC of ICT (Some specific documents from your training session might be requested such as an agenda, PowerPoint slides, etc.)
  • EXIN accredits not only the organization but also looks into the facilitator’s (trainer’s) expertise
  • The formal accreditation title is: “ABC Workgroup Facilitator Accredited Partner”
