  • About RSS
RSS is an alternative way to distribute new information published on the internet. Notifications of new content or changes to multiple Web sites are handled easily, and the results are presented to you in a well-organized manner.

RSS is a special standard of text formatting based on XML that is most often referred to as “Really Simple Syndication.” Many Web sites now have an RSS file attached which monitors what information is new. That information is then sent directly to the subscriber’s desktop, completing what is called the RSS feed.

    How does it work?
By using an RSS reader, it is possible to subscribe to and organize RSS feeds from many Web sites at the same time. New messages form the various Web sites will then be directly available in the RSS reader. Subscribing to an RSS feed is a simple matter of adding the RSS feed URL address in the RSS reader. The reader will then check the feed on a regular basis and display any new information found.

  • How do I get started?
You only need to download an RSS reader. There are many free RSS readers from which to choose. Some of the most common ones are Google Reader, Bloglines or Netvibes. Also, Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 have built-in RSS readers which can be activated by clicking on the small orange RSS icon in the menu bar.
